Jewish Learning Online (JLO)

Please join the JCCV for the initial offering of Jewish Learning Online (JLO) + virtual Discussion/Q&A.  We pair a video on a topic with a virtual discussion and Q&A lead by JCCV members and friends who are knowledgeable about the subject.  Our first JLO + virtual Discussion/Q&A features a recorded session offered by the American Jewish University on “Eradicating the Stigma of Addiction in the Jewish World.”

Jewish stigmas around addiction and substance abuse often prevents people from addressing the problem and seeking treatment. Carl Erik Fisher, author of The Urge: Our History of Addiction, provides an authoritative, illuminating and deeply human history of addiction – a baffling and deeply misunderstood phenomenon.  He is joined by AJU’s Rabbi Sherre Hirsch as they discuss how Judaism has addressed addiction and how a more expansive nuanced and compassionate view can help combat this challenge.
