Topic: Sacred Ground: A History of Jewish Burial Practices
What do we consider burial in a Jewish context? Do we consider our burial grounds ‘sacred’ and if so, why? What are some of our beliefs – historical and/or present day about death and the relationships the living and the dead have with each other? How have our beliefs changed how we “house” our dead? I try to address these and other questions about the holiness of what we will all experience – death and loss.
Speaker: Lynn Greenhough
Thursday, March 18th from 10:00 to 11:00 am Pacific Time
Lynn Greenhough is currently Rabbi with Kolot Mayim Reform Temple. Her many years serving with and teaching about the Chevra Kadisha (Jewish Burial Societies) has stimulated an interest in funerary and burial customs as they have evolved over the millennia.
