Shelbourne Street Improvements Project Begins Phase 3 On October 1st

The District of Saanich has notified the JCCV that construction will be starting on Phase 3 of the Shelbourne Valley Action Plan on October 1st and is expected to take approximately 24 months to complete. Phase 3 will affect Shelbourne Street between Pear Street and Garnet Road.
During construction, there will be regular lane closures along Shelbourne Street.
Our driveway from Shelbourne Street may be inaccessible for a short period of time. Access to the Centre from Church Street will remain open.
Disruption to water services will occur during construction. We will be notified a minimum of 24 hours prior to any planned water shutoffs.
The Centre and Deli will remain open during construction and we
will inform you of any notifications from Saanich that impact the use of the Centre.

Background about the Artist 
Stuart Nemtin is best known to Victoria audiences as clown, Major Conrad Flapps,  The son of Russian and Rumanian Jewish parents, Stuart was drawn to the violin at an early age following the unexpected death of his father.  Growing up attending zionist summer camps enhanced Stuart’s love of theatre, music and dance. Spending a year in Israel at the Institute for Youth Leaders From Abroad solidified his love of performing and animating others. Following his graduation in theatre from the University of British Columbia, Stuart performed professionally in regional theatre, on television and in film. He followed his passion for making people laugh and ended up performing in seven countries and guest starring on three national television series as his fiddling clown persona, Major Conrad Flapps for over  35 years.
He also was awarded a Heritage Canada’s grant for his anti-racism musical of The Story of Esther, which he toured across Canada and in Switzerland. 

His new autobiographical theatre performance, Fiddling with the Stories of my Life, was received with standing ovations in San Miguel Allende’s  Santa Ana Theatre and has been proudly sponsored by the International Writers’ Festival.

In ‘Fiddling with the Stories of my Life’, Nemtin masterfully combines acting, fiddling and poetry in bringing the stories to life, shining a light on the human condition. 
Tales of Greek Island romance and boozy musicians, South African jails and prejudice, hit audiences where they live.

Biography
Canadian born, Stuart Nemtin has performed as his clown character “Major Conrad Flapps” in seven countries, at international festivals including The Wellington Festival of the Arts, Le Salon Des Fetes, Switzerland, Universal City Walk, Los Angeles,  International Health Race, Scotland, Olympiads and Expos, headlining with  Vancouver and Edmonton Symphony Orchestras and guest starring on three national televisions series. He has acted professionally with theatre companies across Canada, starred in The Storty of Esther, directed Trickster Theatre and taught theatre arts in U.S.A., Switzerland and Canada. He has released World in a Flapp, a musical CD for young audiences.  As a violinist he has performed with his spoons playing, singing wife, Sally in Mexico, Greece, Africa, Great Britain, Amsterdam and USA for 45 years. Stuart is a graduate of theatre from the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University’s Professional Teaching Programme.

The JCCV Chanukah Gift Shop opens Tuesday, November 7th and is well stocked with all your Chanukah shopping needs; chanukiahs (candle and LED), fancy and traditional candles, dreidels, chocolate gelt, decorations, kids games and toys, books, and lots more.

Shop early to take advantage of the best selection before items are sold out!!

The Chanukah Gift Shop is open Tuesday to Friday from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, and will be open on Sunday, November 19th, November 26th, and December 3rd from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm.

The 1st Chanukah candle is lit on the night of Thursday, December 7th.

JCCV Deli Re-Opens on Wednesday, October 11th with New Cook

Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, and the hiring of a new cook, Lina Fainblum, we are pleased to announce that the JCCV Lox, Stock & Bagel Deli will re-open on Wednesday, October 11th at 11:30 am. For the time being, the Deli will be open Wednesdays to Fridays from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, with a few changes to the Deli menu.
