Renewed JCCV Library Open
Welcome to the renewed library at the Jewish Community Centre of Victoria!
Our collection consists of several hundred books organized by topic and alphabetically by author within the topics. These include: Jewish History, The Holocaust, Art and Photography, Israel, Biography, Humour and many more.
Some books are honourably old and have been instructive and entertaining to many. Others are younger. All await your interest and attention. We encourage you to drop in, browse and borrow. Borrowing is easy; it works on the honour system. Just fill in the card from inside the book, leave it in the designated box and enjoy reading your chosen material for as long as you need. Please return it to the designated basket.
Much of the collection on the shelves was generously donated. To avoid duplication, we ask that anyone wishing to donate books in good condition first send along a list of titles and authors to the librarians. To make arrangements for donations, please contact Coral Grant at mdonk@telus.net or Juliet Simon at jhsimon@shaw.ca.
We owe a debt of gratitude to all past JCCV librarians who have spent countless hours gathering, organizing and cataloguing these materials. Our collection is of great relevance to members of the JCCV and the larger community.
JCCV Lively Walking Group – Autumn 2016
Start the Jewish New Year in health, fitness and camaraderie with the JCCV Lively Walking Group.
Walks take place on alternate Fridays, rain or shine. If you are moderately fit and enjoy group walking, you are invited to join in. Planned and led by volunteer leader Juliet Simon, routes of approximately 1.5 hour’s duration at a lively pace take in a variety of spots around town, over varied terrain, via parks, neighbourhoods and pedestrian pathways. The goals are good health and camaraderie. After each walk there’s an optional café stop. No need to commit to the whole series; come when you can; walk at your own risk
Rendez-vous details will be e-mailed out by the Wednesday preceding each Friday walk. To be on the list, please contact Juliet at jhsimon@shaw.ca.

Thrifty Foods Smile Card Funding Approved for JCCV
Thrifty Foods has once again approved Smile Card funding for the Jewish Community Centre of Victoria. This year the funding will go towards the purchase of new tables for the deli. Each time you use your Smile Card to buy groceries, Thrifty Foods will donate an amount equal to 5% of the amount you load on your Smile Card to the JCCV.
There is absolutely no cost to you. Take the Smile Card with you to Thrifty Foods when you go grocery shopping. Ask the cashier to load any amount you wish onto the card before having your grocery order rung through. Pay for the card load with cash, debit card or credit card. Ring the grocery order through and pay for the order with your Smile Card. When the card balance is running low, load it again to continue to support the JCCV every time you shop! It’s that simple!
Also, using the Smile Card does not affect collecting your personal Air Miles points. Continue to use your Air Miles Card to keep collecting points on your grocery purchases.
We are very grateful to Thrifty Foods for including the JCCV in the charitable non-profit organizations that they are supporting.
Need a card – for you or someone else in your family? Please call the JCCV office at 250-477-7185 or email jccv@telus.net.
