JCCV FILM NIGHT

Monday, April 29th at 7:00 pm

Jewish Community Centre of Victoria, 3636 Shelbourne St.

AGE OF CONSENT (1969) (103 minutes)

Director: Michael Powell

Stars: James Mason and Helen Mirren (first feature film!)

The JCCV is proud to announce a screening of The Age of Consent.

This Australian film is off beat and quirky and filmed on Dunk Island on the Great Barrier Reef.

It stars the venerable James Mason as Bradley, an aging artist looking for inspiration one final time and Helen Mirren as Cora, the catalyst to revive his creative juices. Gorgeous cinematography that captures the grandiose beauty of Australia is matched by the beautiful Cora, a young uninhibited island dweller. This film has lots of humour and is representative of the “free love” spirit of the late Sixties.

Really worth a viewing!!!

Please join us for a fun evening of cinema…schmoozing…discussing and having a good time! State of the Art projection, large screen & great sound!

Snacks and cold drinks included in the $10 price of admission. $8 for JCCV members.
A classic cartoon and newsreel prior to the feature!

FOOD-FOR-THOUGHT LUNCHEON on Monday, April 15th

Topic:       The History of Orchestra Conducting. What are the tasks of a conductor, how do they prepare for a concert individually and with a group?

Speaker:  Professor Ajtony Csaba Szakacs, School of Music, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Victoria

Professor Ajtony Csaba Szakacs can’t imagine his life without music. He is the music director for UVic’s Symphony Orchestra in the Faculty of Fine Arts. His expertise focuses on contemporary music performance, music theatre and music dramaturgy. These concentrations allow him to transform pure music events such as concerts into more engaging, more visually appealing spectacles, much like the opera he wrote in 2005, which involved three singers, nine dancers and live visuals and electronics. He brings his European influence and experience at UVic to an event called the SALT New Music Festival with colleagues and students in Victoria. It brings together composers and performers of contemporary music from around the world.

When: Monday, April 15th from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm

Where: Jewish Community Centre of Victoria, 3636 Shelbourne Street

Sit down luncheon includes coffee or tea and dessert. Cost is $15.00. $12.00 for JCCV members.

Call or email the JCCV at 250-477-7185 or jccv@telus.net to reserve.
